We moved here and realised almost nobody around us actually knew how to slow down. They knew how to take breaks. That is different.
Aahista Stays is our home, in Suja within Bir. We have opened two rooms to people who need what we found here, the particular quiet of a place that has no interest in your productivity.
Two rooms on purpose. Small enough to feel personal. Intimate enough that you might actually exhale.
The Dhauladhar range fills your window. Snow-capped peaks above open fields, changing colour through the day. Flow faces the mountains directly, which means the view from your bed in the morning is the kind that takes a moment to process.
Sit out there long enough and you will lose track of time entirely.
Balcony room, a little more sheltered. Glide looks out over the green, which is its own kind of quiet. Wake up, look out. The rest of the day can wait.
A little more tucked in, a little more private feeling.
Sit here and watch the trees and the open sky. There is usually nobody else. That is the point.
A shared living space where guests tend to end up talking to each other. Sofas, good light, and nothing demanding your attention.
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen to put together a meal. Basic essentials available. The Bir market is fifteen minutes away if you want to cook something properly.
Himalayan magpies arrive on the balcony railing before you do. The fog sits over the hills like it owns the place. Nobody is waiting for you to be anywhere today.
The paragliding landing site is 15 minutes away via a shortcut only locals know. We will point you right. The trails go deeper into deodar forest if you want them to. Or stay in. Both are fine.
The cafes and restaurants on the Bir strip are fifteen minutes away. Or eat in when the air turns cool. The stars over the Kangra Valley are unreasonably good.

We know this is the part of every homestay website where the copy goes vague. These are the actual decisions, in plain language.
Sleepwell mattress, medium-firm. We slept on it ourselves before anyone else did. Linen washed before every stay and dried in mountain air. Bir nights get cold. You will not be.
Attached and private. Hot water. Cleaned before every stay. No bathtub. A good shower, enough shelf space, and a hook that actually holds a towel.
Fast enough for a video call, a movie, a full work day. We will share the password on arrival.
No television. We thought about it for longer than we should admit. If that is a dealbreaker, we are probably not the right place for you, and that is genuinely okay.
We are in Suja, a village within Bir. A fifteen-minute walk to the cafes, the Tibetan colony, and the paragliding landing site via a shortcut we will share.
Buddhist monasteries, deodar forests, and a town that runs at the pace of a conversation, not a calendar. The Kangra Valley spread out below at 1,525 metres.
Minute walk to Bir cafes, the Tibetan colony, and the paragliding landing area
Above sea level in the Kangra Valley, cool nights, clear mornings, unreasonably good stars
From Dharamsala / Gaggal Airport, a beautiful road through the Kangra Valley
Open in all seasons, each one completely different from the last
